🚨 Hotpatching is now available for Windows 11 24H2 on Arm64 devices — but there's a catch, you have to disable CHPE. https://lnkd.in/dkWQSXeQ
Per Microsoft:
“This setting is required because it forces the operating system to use the emulation x86-only binaries instead of CHPE binaries on Arm64 devices. CHPE binaries include native Arm64 code to improve performance. Excluding the CHPE binaries might affect performance or compatibility.”
So, you can’t have hotpatching on Arm64 without disabling CHPE, and doing that may degrade performance and compatibility.
I’ve been using an ARM-based Surface personally, and honestly, the performance has been spectacular. Battery life? Miles better than the Intel-based device I came from. That's my Surface in the picture btw :)
Has anyone in the community tested:
-Performance differences with and without CHPE?
-Any measurable battery impact after disabling it?
-Whether the promise of reboot-free updates is worth the trade?
Microsoft has made it clear: no plans to support hotpatching with CHPE enabled.
Would love to hear what others are seeing in the field.
